With Bella's birthday not far in the horizon at the time of this writing, I thought it prudent to repost C-chan's drawing for her 2008 birthday. Except for the larger size, it is reposted entirely in its original form.
The drawing is a full-body portraiture of OpenVMS-tan, a powerful swordswoman and geomancer who used to be one of the most capable DEC officers, but now heads an influential OS-tan faction called the "CIOST" (or "Confederation of Independent OS-tans"). Aside from the leader, she is also the captain of an enormous submersible that serves as the CIOST headquarters, and in which the current setting takes place. She is also a passionate admirer of sharks and keeps a few in a non-isolated tank as free-range pets. The large cleaver she wields is decorated/sharped along the bladed edge by steel-coated shark teeth. Being silent and withdrawn, she customarily wears a mask while in public, but is pictured here taking it off. Any slight similarity with Windows NT-tan is, of course, intentional. |

Mascot of OpenVMS system?
Sharp and sharks, that what we need
Thank you for faving it btw! Stay tuned for a NetBSD-tan soon. My friend:
...already drew a few of those.
Thank you.... and sorry if I didn't see this earlier.
This picture perfectly captures OpenVMS-sama's coolness; her pose is dynamic, her expression is steely and confident, and her clothing and weaponry is perfectly shaded and highlighted. All in all, OpenVMS-tan carries a sort of strong, cold grace about her in this portraiture; which is exactly how I've always envisioned her character.
The background is one of the most realistically rendered and creative I've seen from you (right up there with the FCL-tan and Abraxas-tan drawing). It heightens the atmosphere of mystery in this picture, and it wouldn't be the same without it.
And the sharks are awesome as well. I've always been drawn to that one on the right-- I call him Smiley. XD

Proud future Multician!
I definitely appreciate those words about that drawing, but don't forget that that was C-chan's work....
Even though my latest birthday pic will look much better with the intended shading, I have to admit that, compared to this piece, my latest gift is something of a major regression. I guess when it all comes down to it, my time is a bit more scarce than under C-chan's regime. ;_____;
On the other hand... C-chan DID take LONG after your birthday finish this, so guess I can't feel too bad. Right? RIGHT?! ^___^
...
*wallows miserably in poor excuse for an excuse*
Yeah, those sharks are used to curious onlookers, who mistake their natural grimace for a "smile". ^___^;
Incidentally, reference photos were of course used, but all the sharks are drawn in Inkscape. Despite not having a cel-shaded look, they nevertheless do have a slight "unnaturalism" to them that definitely betrays them as drawings. ^^
Unlike this photorealistic beauty that really forces people to study it carefully.... ^___^

That is one awesome-looking submarine that looks like something right out a sci-fi movie! The shark tank is beautifully rendered and of course so is OpenVMS-sama herself!
....
Hey! VMS-sama doesn't take her mask off in front of strangers-- Uh oh... I pity the camera person! o_o
